THE CHALLENGE
The Support2Quit team engaged Emberex to build a highly interactive and engaging mobile app in support of their research that indicates people experiencing cognitive dissonance have better outcomes when trying to quit smoking. The concept required participants to film videos of themselves sharing their thoughts and experiences, and to engage with others in their group. This app would need to be very easy to use and visually engaging for users to maintain their participation.

THE PROCESS
The Support2Quit team had developed a previous app that utilized a similar video-recording feature. The user experience of their app created a number of challenges and barriers for users that we wanted to be sure to solve in the new app. We provided the team with wireframes of the improved user experience, as well as a prototype so the team could experience the user flow themselves. Once the user experience was agreed upon, we were able to finalize designs and move the project to development.

DARK / LIGHT MODE
Our teams agreed that an app such as this that required vulnerability of its participants would benefit from opportunities to personalize the user experience. Allowing users to choose the interface they preferred was one of the ways we accomplished that.

GAMIFICATION
In order to maintain engagement and increase enjoyment while using the app, we added some small gamification features -- including the ability to earn earn points and badges. Microanimations add to the appeal.

SCHEDULED CONTENT
We delivered push notifications to users on a pre-determined schedule. They received quitting tips daily, and a new invitation to view and record a video weekly.

ADMINISTRATION

We built the S2Q team a robust and interactive admin site. Here they are able to interpret and explore participant data and review videos.

THE RESULTS
The Support2Quit app is now in the hands of hundreds of users, who have reported that the app is easy to use.
